The Masters - The Par 3 Tournament

from: http://mastersgolf.quick-facts.info

The highlight on Wednesday is the Masters Par 3 tournament that has become
wildly popular with golfers and fans alike. The contest takes place on Augusta National's The Par 3 course. The tournament participants, past champions and Honorary Invitees are invited to participate. It is a chance to really get to know the players.

The Par 3 tournament has become one of the golf fans favorite events. The players are relaxed, joking and kidding around with each other and the audience. They know it is their last chance to relax before the main event starts the next day.

They also have their pictures made with fans. This may change from one player to the next. Some players bring their children and let them caddy or putt. It is a chance for the fans to see the real person behind the golfer.

If you attend this event or the Masters tournament, there are ways to make it more comfortable:

1. Bring a chair. Up close seating is not provided and the day can get long. If you want, you can purchase an official Masters golf chair at the Augusta Golf Shop. They are reasonably priced at around $30USD.

Once you place your chair, it is considered bad form for anyone else to move it. Therefore, once you place your chair that is your spot. You are then free to visit the restroom or snack tent and have a place to return to. Do not leave it for long, though.

The course is extremely crowded so a seat placed in front of the crowd will allow you to see what's going on. Otherwise, you will be trying to look over everyone else's head. Crowds around a hole can get 25 or more people deep, especially when a well known golfer is hitting. If you are over 6 feet tall, you may not have this problem. If not, bring a chair.

2. Get there early. The par 3 event usually starts at around 1:00pm on Wednesday. If you want a seat in a good location, you need to be there at least an hour early.

3. Bring a camera. The practice days (Monday thru Wednesday) are your only chance to take pictures of the players or the beautiful golf course, as cameras are not allowed on regular tournament days.

4. Get autographs. Be sure to visit the Augusta Golf Shop and buy items for the players to sign. A tee flag makes a good signature item, but there are many others. Autograph seeking is allowed only on the parking lot side of the Clubhouse. For player safety and protection, there is a "No Autograph Policy" enforced on the golf course for the practice and Tournament days.

Just remember:

a. Never ever call out to a player as he is getting ready to hit the ball. You could find yourself escorted off of the course.
b. Golf is considered a gentleman's game. Strict decorum is expected. You can applaud a good shot but should not applaud a bad shot, ever.
c. Running on the grounds is also considered bad form.

There are a lot of officials watching the crowds to keep them in check. If you observe the rules you should not have a problem.
Check The Masters official website for a full listing of rules and policies.
